…the Fujitsu S1500 for PC’s, the Fujitsu S1500M Document Scanner for Mac users offers a lifeboat to those of us who are drowning in a sea of paperwork at home or in the office.
In these present times, a paperless office seems to be at the top of everyone’s list of goals for either their home office or business office. One way to achieve that goal, if you’re a Mac user, is to acquire one of these scanners.
The S1500M is silver and white, ostensibly, to tell it apart from the S1500 for PC model and, when it is folded up, takes little space on your desk. Connection to your Mac is with a 2.0 USB and the unit itself is really quite solid and well built.
The S1500M is very user-friendly, it’s adf (automatic document feeder) can hold up to 50 sheets of different sized documents, can scan both sides of the document simultaneously (duplex scanning) with a resolution of 600 dpi (dots per inch). To initiate scanning, just one push of the blue button is all you need to do.
As far as speed is concerned, the S1500M isn’t the fastest kid on the block in terms of document feeding (the difference was measured in seconds by the way), but the real measurement of speed is what the scanner does with the document after it has been scanned. Compared with other scanners, the processing of the document into the format you desire, the folder you desire, to the printer or to email is positively lightning quick because of the presets built within the software.
One interesting note is that the S1500M is supplied with two versions of ScanSnap Manager, one for Mac and one for Windows, which greatly aids those Mac users who use both operating systems on their Mac.
Do you want to be positive that all your documents were scanned? Another upgrade to the S1500M is the ultrasonic multi-feed detection sensor. This greatly reduces the number of lost images due to two or more pages being fed through the scanner at the same time. If this error occurs, the scanner will warn you. A great feature!

The S1500M is loaded with Acrobat 9 Standard and one of the features of this software will provide you with the ability to utilize password protection and create digital IDs that will keep your confidential documents confidential. Protection from prying eyeballs is essential these days.
This powerful machine really can boost the efficiency of your office. Quickly and cheaply produce Microsoft® Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Editable PDF files. Instead of using a fax machine (people still use them?), scan your document, save it as a PDF and send it by email. That shaves several minutes of faxing off of your work day, doesn’t it? Scan all your business cards and add the pertinent information into your address book seamlessly. Scan and save your documents as a Word file, which is perfect for editing or send it to the cloud and be able to access it from any mobile device.
One important caveat must be brought up. In researching document scanners, I have come across many reports of gung ho people who scan all of their documents and then toss all them out like yesterday’s news. Inevitably, they are hit with a request for an original document and they don’t have it. You need to keep your most important documents no matter what. At some point in time, an original hard-copy will be needed and nothing else will do. Going green is commendable, but not at the expense of going in the red! There’s a reason NASA has redundant systems for back up, savvy?
