Whether you are a college student, a sales rep or a harried parent with a tight schedule, this affordable and efficient mobile scanner should be your first choice for scanning documents on-the-go.

 

 

Portability

This is truly a portable device.  It easily fits into a backpack, briefcase or, if need be, a diaper bag (I know, but a lot of other things are carried in a diaper bag other than diapers!).  Since it weighs as much as a can of soda, lugging it around is effortless.  Furthermore,  you are not burdened with one of those clunky power cords with transformers that seem to add extra weight to devices, since the S1100 is powered with only a single USB cable connected to your computer device.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Convenience

 

With the S1100′s footprint taking up such a small amount of real estate, it really is convenient to take this device to the cafe, restaurant or airport and set up your own mobile workspace.

 

 

 

 

 

Compatibility

The S1100 is compatible with both PC and Mac, which is a big relief for a lot of people who own a PC desktop and a Mac laptop or vice versa. More and more manufacturers are doing it, just not enough of them.  So, it’s a plus whenever a manufacturer does build in compatibility for both systems.  A fashionable word for this type of compatibility is “hybrid.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Two-Way Paper Path

An ingenious design built into the S1100 is the two-way paper path function. Don’t have a lot of room on the cafe table?

No problem, lift up the tray on the scanner and the scanned paper is forced upward (Fujitsu calls it a U turn path).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Do you have a heavier stock of paper, business cards or photographs that need scanned, but might get jammed in the U turn path?

 

Once again, no problem.  On the S1100, just fold down the tray and the scanned documents are now fed in a flat stream.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 CardMinder and Cardiris

Another great feature of the S1100 is the business card organizer software that comes bundled with it.  Managing business contacts is in itself an almost full-time job.

For fans of Evernote, it is now possible to access Evernote from the ScanSnap Quick menu.  So, now, push one button, send your scans into Evernote and those scans then become instantly available and searchable on any computer or mobile device.  That’s a mighty cool feature indeed.

 

 

 

 

 

Scanning Speed

Easily, the S1100 is the fastest scanner in the ultra-portable scanning class.  Scanning, in color, at 300 dpi (dots per inch), the S1100 clocks in at 7.5 seconds per page.  The Continuous Feed Detection (CFD), which means the S1100 detects the next page to be scanned and feeds it in without you having to push the button all the time, is a time saver as well.

 

 

 

 

 

Drawbacks

Not deal breakers mind you, but irritating nonetheless:

1) The S1100 is a simplex scanner (it only scans one side of the document), but I’m sure a duplex scanner for that size is in development at Fujitsu.

2) Would it have hurt Fujitsu’s bottom line to have thrown in a simple carrying bag?  I think not.

3) Non-TWAIN compliance seems to scare some people off, but in my experience TWAIN has proven to be more unreliable than reliable.  Therefore, a proprietary program will be less buggy.

 

Bottom Line

 

The Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 Mobile Document Scanner is a terrific buy and one that you won’t regret.  If you’re constantly on the road and living on the fly, then this scanner is for you.
